Spider Fight

lim peh ka li kong

When I was a small boy I was a very happy kid.

During my childhood time, I did not have computer, no air-con, no colour-TV, no PSP or Wii but I think I have better childhood than the children now.

Being boys (my neighbours and I), we used to play and running wild.

I still remembered the wonderful games we played then: sliding down the slope of a hill with a carton box; flying kites; catching longkang fish; catching fighting spider; played "humtam bola"; etc.

Games that I am not able to play them anymore.

I received an email from a guy, Adrian from Malaysia:

" hi, i read ur blog about spiders in singapore.
do u still catch fighting spiders in singapore?
we still have it here in malaysia "
check out this site
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/608348 "

In the site, I found this clip from YouTube.

Thanks Adrian for the sharing of such wonderful site.

Maybe, just maybe, one day lim peh will go out there and catch some fighting spiders and play with them again.

Have you ever played with fighting spider?

To Old Beng: Same here. Only problem is: The aunty behind me pretended to ask the cashier how much was an item she wanted to buy. In actual fact, she was jumping queue to make payment before i could. Bloody bitch.

i also played with fighting spiders before in the 1980s when i was in primary school. Played with my cousins over the weekend. Fun.

Titu sio pa jin hoe sng.

There are too many shameless people in our country jumping queue, just have to tell them off lor.

Yes indeed, spider fighting is super fun hor.

    是的,“鬼” 的 spider, 还有当你的 spider 打输后,就会把一只母的按住,让公的 “gyan” 母以便加强它的战斗力。

Must go and catch some spider to fight soon, 瘾来了

Beng,I remember those games too. Things are different these days. Instead of sliding down the slope of hill with carton box, the kids go to snow city. The kites are a lot fancier now and if you try telling them to put glass particles on their strings, they'll probably tell you to go fly a kite. The SPCA might accuse you of cruelty to animals if you catch spiders for fights. And if your kids play humtam bola, the parents of the other kids may sue you for assault.
I also recall a couple of other games that I enjoyed playing - marbles and 'police catch thief'.

Do keep in touch & regards to ChaBo Lang.

    Cheers, Ipromise

    是的,成长的其中一个代价是只能常常怀念、无法时时参与。

    Ipromise
You may be right, so that's the main reasons why all our childhood games are not played nowadays.

Yes, there were many more games, how can we forget marbles, "police catch thief", "kuti-kuti" and "ang-kong-zhua"?

It's a long time since we last met, call us when you are in town.

Yeah. I had my fun time too. Use to go to the thick bush area behind our HDB area to catch spider. End up coming home with lots of mosquito bites...hahaha
