一天,有个年轻人来到王老板的店里买了一件礼物。这件礼物成本是18元,标价是21元。结果是这个年轻人掏出100元要买这件礼物。
王老板当时没有零钱,便用那100元向街坊换了100元的零钱,找给年轻人79元。
但是街坊后来发现那100元是假钞,王老板无奈还了街坊100元。
现在问题是:
王老板在这次交易中到底损失了多少钱?

再想一下,前前后后王老板只失去成本的18元与还给街坊的100元。其他的更本不重要。
所以他只失去118元。

97 元!
因为之前换的那一百元里面王老板留下了21 元给自己,扣掉成本18元,等于是赚了3元。到后来不得已赔给街坊的一百元,减掉赚来得3元,王老板还是亏了97元!

The answer is $97.
The counterfeit dollar-note is not important and its purpose is to confuse one's mind. All in all, Mr Wang only paid out $100 (returning to neightbour) but he collected $21 from the sales which was $3 profit thus, he lost $97 in total.
The young man gained $79 + the souvenir.
Think about it and I am sure you will figure it out pretty soon :)

The 1st $100 note which he exchanged with his neighbour came from the young man and not Mr Wang's money so it should not be considered as Mr Wang's lost.

Old Beng, this is a question found in the Primary 3 Maths textbook of China. The subject of counterfeit note was raised as it is a common social phenonema there..... cheers.
