Movie Night With Cha-Bo-Lang

lim peh ka li kong

Last night (27 Aug 2008), me and my cha-bo-lang had a fright night - we went to watch the Thai horror movie - 4bia

4bia = Phobia.

You can safely read my post even if you have not watched the show as lim peh will not reveal much of the story lines.

I love watching horror movies since young and 4bia is satisfactory to my standard as viewers like me get 4 different movies for the price of 1. Due to the time constraints for each story, the pace is much faster and not draggy.

1) Happiness - Directed by Yangyoot Thongkongtoon, the one who directed Iron Ladies.
A young lady confined to her apartment with a broken leg in a cast alone. The building up of the chilling atmosphere was superb and although lim peh managed to guess the story line as it unfolds, it is still a good story.

2) Tit for Tat - Directed by Paween Purijitpanya, the one who directed Body #19.
To me, this is the weakest story and I preferred Body story line to Tit for Tat.

3) In the Middle - Directed by Banjong Pisanthanakan, the co-director of Thai blockbusters Shutter and Alone.
4 friends went on a rafting trip and their boat capsized with only 3 of them managed to make it out alive. They searched for their missing friend and as they were trying to sleep, their missing friend came back... The story was presented in quite a funny way and Director's skillful lead of the viewers all the way to want to know the ending is well handled.

4) Last Fright - Directed by Pakpoom Wongpoom, the other co-director with Banjong Pisanthanakan on Shutter and Alone.
A so-so story line but it maximises its tok-kong setting of a helpless flight attendant on board a turbulence-rocked empty plane with a dead body. Claustrophobic situation + helplessness push the story to its fullest climax.

If you love horror movies, this is 1 show you should not miss as out of the 4 stories, there sure to be 1 that meets your taste.

I think lim peh really prefer Horror shows from Thailand and Korea to Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Batam Trip

lim peh ka li kong

The other day me and my cha-bo-lang went to Batam for a short break with 2 of our nephews, Jia Hao and Jonathan. We were there for a 2D1N trip and stayed in Holiday Inn, Batam.

After this trip, lim peh will not stay in this hotel again as the room we got was quite rundown and to make things worse, the air-con was very noisy. No air-con it will be too warm to sleep and with air-con it will be too noisy to sleep. The worst point will be its distance from the city of Batam, a relatively far if you want to go into the city, the taxi fares will cost you a bomb.

Anyway, apart from the Hotel room, everything went on well.

Everyone who visits Batam with any tour group will be brought to the famous bridge for sight seeing – The Barelang Bridge. What can one see there?

Some Islands, Sky, Sea, enjoys the wind and try on some local seafood if you dare to take the risk as our local tour guide told us that the hawker who sold the seafood did not wash the seafood.

Took some photos there:

Photo taken without telling my 2 nephews.

Once alerted, they will pose in their 搞搞震 postures.

After our photo taking at the Barelang Bridge, we were taken to visit the famous temples in Batam:

We went to the famous Tua Pek Kong Temple 大伯公庙 and I took 2 photos outside the temple, no photo taking allowed in the temple. See, colourful right?
大伯公庙拜拜一番之后,we went to another temple, a very big one – Vihara Buddhist Temple. When we went inside the temple, I took 2 photos:

After the temples, we were also taken to see some local culture performance show.

We took a few more photos there:

2 young men in front of the beautiful Elephant

Now, this is more presentable

We were also taken to Polo Ralph Shop for some thrill purchases as the branded shirts were selling at a lower rates as compared to Singapore but knowing our 咸橄榄的 characters, we did not bring home any.

Before heading back to our hotel, we went for some foot-reflexalogy and shopping at the local biggest shopping mall.

The second day before checking out, we had our breakfast in the hotel and lazed around to ride bicycles, swim and even played a few games of table tennis.

We took some more photos in the hotel before checking out and headed home:

Jia Hao, Uncle Beng, Jonathan

Then one of my nephews suggested a different pose and lim peh actually agreed, so laugh if you want.
I think my pose is more sexy hor?

谁不想尽早退休、做自己喜欢做的事;
谁不想做自己生命的主宰者;

年轻时,有活力、有体力,可没经验、没财富;
年老时,有财富、有经验,却没体力;

日复一日、年复一年。猛然回首,清数身边一切事与物:房子、财富、汽车、物质通通不缺;
可悲的不是你察觉你所失去的时间、岁月、青春、已无法寻得回;
曾经睡醒、吃喝玩乐就一天;
如今睡醒、工作打拼又一天;

曾经一桌聚会我最小;
如今年龄、资历、辈份已偏高;

曾经熬夜、迟睡早起精神饱满、没问题;
如今午夜之前、眼皮儿超重、撑无可撑、会周公;

曾经腹肌六国独立硬梆梆;
如今齐心协力一团软绵绵;

曾经一夜七次郎;
如今七夜一次郎;

Nuffnang

lim peh ka li kong

When lim peh started blogging, it's just a playground for me to write, share and rant.

Some people make a living writing blog but knowing lim peh's own strength, I know I can never make a living via blogging.

So when I came across nuffnang advertisement in other bloggers' blogs, lim peh thought to myself, "since others do it, maybe lim peh also can?"

What will I lose? So lim peh, with my limited IT knowledge, started to sign as a nuffnang member.

On and off, some advertisements come and go. Due to the "not so popular" hits of my blog, my earnings from the advertisement was rather low.

Then, one day, lim peh logged into my nuffnang accounts and realised I have more than $50 earnings and I can cash it out.

I requested for my earnings on the 19th June 2008 and Nuffnang issued the cheque on the 23rd July, 2008 posted it out on the 24th and lim peh received it on the 25th.

In fact I was more than surprise when I received the cheque as I was expecting to receive it only in August. Per Nuffnang's procedure, the cheque will come only after 30 days from the end of the requested month.

I have read and heard bloggers complaining about the slow payment but mine was pretty fast.

Anyway, the amount is enough for me to buy some "mum-mum" (tidbits) but as I said, I did not expect much since the beginning of signing with Nuffnang.

The letter and a cheque was sent to me (Name and amount changed for own "song-ness" purpose only) (click on pic to enlarge for better viewing).
