Argument Over A Small Matter

lim peh ka li kong

Last night, my 2 buddy Ah Huat and Ah Seng came to my place and chit chat and suddenly Ah Huat popped a question to us and we had a good time arguing discussing over it.

How can we differentiate people? Don´t play play hor, this topic very difficult one you know, U grads also cannot answer properly one.

After much argument discussion with vulgar wisdom words flying around, we still did not have the answer. Since we Lau Ah Bengs cannot have a satisfactory answer, any smart alec guy / gal out there boleh (can) contribute?

Ah Huat : Easy la, people can be categorised as Man and Woman with obvious reason of course.

Ah Seng : Also can divide by Old and Young.

Old Beng : Also can Fat and Thin.

Ah Huat : Tall and Short boleh also.

Ah Seng : Good looking and Ugly.

Old Beng : Dogs lovers and Cats lovers.

Ah Huat : Rich and Poor.

Ah Seng : Staying in HDB and Landed.

Old Beng : Married and Single.

Ah Huat : Got Car or No Car.

Ah Seng : You gila or what! I got 2 kar also can count or not (pointing to his 2 legs).

Ah Huat : You not gila meh? HDB or Landed!

Ah Seng : Yeah what. How can differentiate by got Car or not? Those got motorbike or van or bicycle one, where to put them? Seow!!!

Ah Huat : Then your one very good meh? HDB or Landed? Those no own a house one how? Rental only leh? Condo leh? Seow-Ding-Tong.

Old Beng : Oei, don´t quarrel la children...

Ah Seng : What!! You think you got write blog very smart is it? Your toopid Dogs and Cats lovers way? More seow only!!! How about those not love Dogs nor Cats, love birdie can not can? Love tortoise can not can?

Ah Huat : Yeah lor, some more think of Fat and Thin. Those not Fat not Thin one how? Really bo-liao la you.

Old Beng : You leh? Very smart is it? Tall and Short? Those not Tall also not Short one how? Ah Seng, you don´t laugh ok, your idea of Old and Young also ka-na-sia one, those not old not young one how?

Ah Seng : You leh Lao Ah Beng, your Married and Single not ka-na-sia la. Those married already divorced one how? Those not married but stay together one how?

Ah Huat : Hello you Lau Ah Seng, your Good looking and Ulgy also sibeh jia-lat ok. Those average looking one how?

Old Beng : Oei, your Rich and Poor also soo-ku one la, those not rich not poor one how?

Ah Seng : Yeah lor, your Man and Woman also rubbish one la, those not Man not Woman how?

And our heated argument discussion went on and on until finally we heard a ROAR and all 3 of us kept our mouths shut immediately.

Me think if without that "ROAR" we 3 goondoos would have argued until the cows go home also won´t stop.

H

lim peh ka li kong

Me have a friend whom me have known him since 1989, the way we met and knew each other was rather unique: my last day in my company and his first day in the company and me had to hand over all the job to him.

Since then, we had had lunch and even dinner together cos although we were in different company but still within the same premise - The Air-Freight Centre (previously known as The Cargo Complex).

This friend, me shall call him H, was about my age and Old Beng then was a young Beng and was still single and so we 2 same kind of ABCD males (ABCD = Alligator, Buah-ya, crocodile, dinosaur) working in an industry with not many chio-bu around us (Of course la, Cargo Complex where got chio-bu?) Only got many "Ah-Qua" at Changi Point la.

Still remembered we would go for lunch together and then after our lunch we would look at girl girl although really not too many to be seen by the 2 咸湿佬; but what to do? no fish, prawn also good la; better than seeing "Ah-Qua" right?

Me and H that time quite bo-liao, some more gave nicknames to the girl girl we saw then. Wonder H still remember 独孤求败 or not? (By the nickname we gave her, you know that she was very the chio, so chio until 求败, you say la? Then there was another one called Miss 嚣张, always pulled a long face but she was indeed very swee too.

Of the few hundreds girl girl we saw then, me can only remember the above 2 chio-bu, you say jia-lat or not. In fact it was so jia-lat until me cannot tahan anymore and finally left the industry and venture else where leaving H alone to continue seeing the "Ah-Qua", ha ha ha.

Although me left Airfreight Centre, me still kept in touch with H and H has always been a nice guy and a good friend to me. Everytime me or my relative needs to move house, H will "voluntarily" (think because he bo-bian since me open my mouth asking him for help, so he LL has to help me) offers his help. Think until now, he must have helped me moved at least 3 times liao.

There was one incident which me remembered very well during my working days there in the Air Freight Centre.

Me remembered once me had an injured ankle and there were tonnes of workload thus me did not go out for lunch and asked one of my office girl to packet rice for me after she had her lunch.

When that office girl of mine came back, me saw that her both hands empty so me asked her where was the rice which me asked to packet for me.

"Ai-yo! I forget about it totally, sorry hor." And she just walked away.

In my heart, me was cursing her upside down, cos it was already past 2 pm and with my injured ankle, there's no way me gonna limp all the way to the canteen (which was in the next building) to buy my food. Tell me la, how to trust girl?

So me bo-bian telephoned H, whose office was in the same building as mine, asking him whether he had taken his lunch or maybe he was still sitting in the canteen bio-ing girl girl. But no, he was very on that day and he went back to his office immediately after his lunch.

After hearing my complain about no rice to eat, H offerred to buy me lunch. A short while later, H came up to my office with a packet of steaming hot rice and a packet of Teh-O, some more he even bought me a packet of cigarette (yeah, Young Beng was a smoker then). Me tell you ah, me only troubled him (especially he already finished his lunch and went back to his office) to packet rice for me and there he came with drinks and cigarette some more, this type of friend where to find?? * tears rolled down my cheek * (Ya ya, a little bit 夸张).

Know who H is? H is for Hero, Lau Hero 是也.

My Friends

lim peh ka li kong

In life, what does a man want?

You ask a hundred men, you probably will get different answers but generally the "Standard" answers will be :-

Money
Power
Women
Health

For me, a typical Old Beng, I am very much contented with what I have now.

A roof above my head as shelter;
Enough money to feed me and my family;
A car for transporting me from point A to point B;
A good wife;
Some nice friends;

Of all the friends I have, the latest new friends whom I have met are people from the cyber world. Kind of weird to make new friends via cyber world especially at my age but hey, they are nice people to know.

Me have 2 friends whom I have known them when I was in my Primary School at the age of 7 years old.

We have known one another for 34 long years!!! (Ya ya longer than your age now, dinosaur's time) .

From primary school boys to teenagers (we were in the same Secondary School too) to adults and having own's family, we have gone through thick and thin together.

Still remember the good old days, while still single, we played soccers, watched movies, bio girl girl, went lounges, tour together.

Though we were rather poor then, we had many happy memories together.

Now, with one of my friend in China, we only manage to see one another once a year when he comes back for vacation.

Me can proudly say that all 3 of us will always be by one another's side till the day we leave this world. I am very sure that in time when I need their help, a phone-call will be all I need and they will be there for me.

How am I so sure? Reciprocity thinking cos I know I will be there for them if they need my help anytime.

Thank you my friends - R and L.

A Poem From A Friend

lim peh ka li kong

Me is so sotong because after a cyber friend wrote a poem "Sparks" to me long time ago but me didn't even know until lately.

Ling, thank you very much for the nice poem.

=====

"Monsieur Lim"

"Sparks"

Dreamin...
I remember the night
When you dreamt of me
The girly smile you put on my face
Simply made me a happy girl
I'll never, ever forget.

Dreamin...
I remember the night
When you spoke
Your voice sounded like the calm waves
sweeping smoothly on the shore
Simply made all the children
running happily with your rhythm
I'll never, ever forget.

Dreamin...
I remember the night
When you told me about voices
I simply sat dreamily and nodded
Would Lim Pek be different from Grandpa?
Sir, I'll never know.
It doesn't matter, you said.
I'll never, ever forget.

Not dreamin...I remember the night
The Joy you brought to others
Like Rainbow after Rain
With You plucking stars from the sky
for each one of them.
Does it matters if I don't understand?
No, for each stars you plucked
You gave them sparkles and You have given
me not the star..
but the Sparks.
I'll never, ever forget..
the Sparks.

Ling

Early CNY 捞起

lim peh ka li kong

Last night, me finally met up with Ipromise for dinner since he came back from China. This man ah, very the busy one, fly in, fly out until so difficult to catch hold of him. Thus once he called for a dinner, me was more than glad to oblige. Sure la, got dinner how can miss?

Anyway, it was sort of a last minute invitation and we met at Traders Hotel. We were expecting to meet a mutual friend of ours, a lady with a pet dog. (I was a little nervous as I have never met her in person before).

When me reached there, Ipromise was already sitting in the lobby, very busy looking around. Hmmm, was he looking out for me or just bio-ing the girl girl? A short while later, the lady with a pet dog arrived but of course, without her dog this time round.

We had our dinner at Cafebiz and all 3 of us settled for the buffet dinner. There was a wide variety of food, Eastern, Western, Japanese, nice soup, ice-cream etc. (Thinking of it now makes me drool).

What surprised us was that there was "Yu-Sheng" 鱼生 available. 3 of us had our early CNY "捞起", the first before the CNY, Woohoo. We 捞 the 鱼生 high high and me kept saying "步步高升" and "Salary High High"; Lady only said "Pretty Always", ha ha.

3 of us started to eat at around 7:45 pm and did not stop until probably around 10:20 pm. OMG!! 2 and a half hours? Think we were not aware of the time and we ate and talked, talked and ate until the waiter told us that they were closing the buffet section.

It's always fun and interesting to meet people you have not met before but knew them only via the Cyber World.

As Old Beng has the characteristic nature of a Cinderella, I had to bid good bye to 2 of them.

It was really nice to have a sumptuous dinner as well as the great companion of friends who are able to chat openly.

It was a great night as Old Beng was accompanied by the knowledgeable man, Ipromise as well as a pretty, gorgeous lady.

xxxxx

-----------------

xxxxx

Friends

lim peh ka li kong

In our hectic and fast moving society today, true friends have never been easy to find; Having a true friend may, due to our daily chores and working lives, then drift apart and gradually become not as close as we used to be.

When we were in our schooldays, we had some very close-friends and we may even have vowed to be friends forever.

I can proudly say, "Yeah, I still have 2 very close friends (we have known one another since our day one in our primary one class - a long 33 years till today) whereby we will meet once in every few months.

In my mind, I always think that friends are easy to make but true friends are hard to come by.

Then, by accident I stumbled into Yahoo Message Boards without the slightest idea what YMB is all about.

Reading the threads; Seeing the angry arguments; Shake my head with a saddened heart - Singaporeans!?!

After a short period of less than 2 months, through the communication via YMB, I made many friends, although in this cyberspace, all are faceless : Gender? Age? Size? Race? Nationalilty? Professional? But I know I have made many friends though they, like old beng, have no idea who I am in actual life but cyberly speaking, we are friends and that brings out a smile from my heart.
